Qatar's Doha Hub Is Running on Restricted Corridors Through May

Hamad International Airport and Qatar Airways faced significant delays and schedule adjustments amid global flight chaos and Middle East issues. Qatar Airways extended flexible rebooking/refund policies and published revised schedules (valid until mid-April 2026), with coverage in April 9–12 reports. This directly affects travelers, expats, and nomads routing through Doha.

Qatar's Doha Hub Is Running on Restricted Corridors Through May

Qatar Airways and Hamad International Airport have been operating under airspace restrictions since March 18, 2026, a direct fallout from US-Iran hostilities that began February 28. Not normal. The QCAA locked down standard routing, forcing all flights through designated safe corridors and while the schedule is expanding , it's still nowhere near full capacity, honestly and there's no confirmed date for a complete return to normal.

The network is growing, turns out, from roughly 90 destinations to over 120 by mid-May, with routes like Seoul and Phuket already back online as of April 1 and Los Angeles and Seattle resuming April 16. Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Bahrain and Beirut remain suspended through April, no Airbus A380s are flying in the interim and the Boeing 777 and A350 are carrying the load.

Who's affected: anyone transiting Doha , digital nomads using HIA as a hub, expats mid-relocation, tourists on long-haul connections. US citizens face a Level 3 "Reconsider Travel" advisory, non-emergency embassy staff were ordered out March 2 and routine consular services are suspended, which is frankly a bigger deal than it sounds if you're mid-visa process.

What to do:

  • Rebook for free , up to two complimentary changes apply to tickets booked February 28 through June 15, 2026, with changes valid through October 31, 2026
  • Full refunds on unused ticket value are available, processed within 28 days; no fees apply
  • Check your flight status at qatarairways.com/schedule or via the app before heading to the airport , call volumes are, weirdly, still high, so self-service is faster
  • Stranded passengers in Doha get hotel stays and meals coordinated by the airline, baggage handling included
  • Nomads and expats with expiring Qatari visas should contact Qatar Airways directly, the airline is coordinating with authorities on extensions

Don't show up at HIA without a confirmed ticket, the airport has been clear about that and short-notice closures are still a real possibility according to Australian advisories.
