Israel’s Ben Gurion Reopens, but Flights Are Still Thin

The program/policy , Ben Gurion Airport is back to regular operations after the ceasefire announced around April 7-9 and the Israel Airports Authority says normal service has resumed in stages, with duty-free package pickup restarting by April 12, though some airlines are still running reduced schedules or suspending routes into late April.
It’s calmer, but not normal.
Airspace limits that had cut traffic to a trickle are gone, yet some carriers, weirdly, are still acting like the market’s on pause, so expect fewer options, higher fares and more schedule changes than you’d like, especially if you’re trying to book last-minute.
Who it affects
Tourists, expats and digital nomads are all getting hit by the same mess, because the airport is open but airline confidence is still shaky and that means fewer direct seats plus more reroutes through nearby hubs.
U.S. travelers should pay attention.
The U.S. Embassy is still warning about Iran and Hezbollah-related risks and it’s telling people to contact airlines directly and keep land crossings in mind, which is honestly the practical move right now if your flight gets chopped.
What to do
If you’re leaving Israel, the main backup exits are the Taba/Begin crossing to Egypt and the Jordan crossings at Arava/Rabin and Jordan River, both operating with set hours and subject to security changes.
Don’t wing it.
Prepay border fees before you go, bring cash for visa or entry costs and if you’re taking a private vehicle into Jordan, make sure the registration is in English, because that rule still matters and it can slow you down fast.
- Taba/Begin: open 24/7
- Arava/Rabin: 06:30-20:00 Sun-Thu, shorter Fri-Sat
- Jordan River: 08:30-18:00 Sun-Thu
Some airlines, including Wizz Air, are still limiting service into April 27, so check bookings early and watch visa updates for schedule shifts before you commit.
