Armenia Updates Entry Rules for Residence Permit Holders
On April 5, 2026, Armenia announced a temporary visa exemption (effective January 1–July 1, 2026) for holders of valid residence permits from the US, EU/Schengen countries, or specified Gulf states (UAE, Bahrain, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Oman). Eligible travelers can enter visa-free for up to 180 days in a one-year period if the residence permit remains valid for at least six months from entry. This aims to boost tourism and spontaneous travel, including business or exploratory stays relevant to expats and remote workers.
Armenia Updates Entry Rules for Residence Permit Holders
Armenia has opened a temporary window for digital nomads and travelers holding residence permits from specific global hubs to enter the country visa-free. This exemption is currently active and will remain in place until July 1, 2026, offering a streamlined path for those looking to explore the Caucasus without the traditional paperwork.
The policy applies to nationals of 113 countries who hold valid residence permits from the United States, EU Member States, Schengen Area countries, or several Gulf nations including the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar. To qualify, your residence permit must be valid for at least six months from your date of entry and be presented as a physical card or a passport sticker.
Who can benefit
This move specifically targets the mobile workforce and frequent travelers, including:
- Digital nomads using the window for exploratory stays or short-term remote work.
- Expats based in the Middle East or Europe seeking a nearby destination for visa runs or vacations.
- Business travelers attending meetings or scouting investment opportunities in Yerevan.
While Armenia does not yet offer a dedicated digital nomad visa, this exemption allows eligible visitors to stay for up to 180 days within a one-year period. There are no visa fees associated with this entry method.
Preparing for upcoming changes
If you are planning a longer stay, keep an eye on broader immigration reforms scheduled for later this year. Starting November 1, 2026, Armenia will transition all residence applications to an online-only system. A new work entry visa category will also be introduced for stays up to 120 days, and certain business investment thresholds will be formalized for those seeking residency through entrepreneurship.
