Uber and Zoox Team Up for Robotaxi Access

Uber and Zoox recently confirmed a strategic partnership that will bring purpose-built autonomous vehicles to the Uber app. This marks the first time Zoox has opened its fleet to a third-party platform, allowing travelers to book rides in vehicles designed specifically for ride-hailing rather than modified passenger cars.

These robotaxis are unique because they lack traditional steering wheels and pedals. Instead, the interior is designed for comfort and conversation, featuring a carriage-style seating arrangement. The service is scheduled to debut in Las Vegas this summer, with an expansion into Los Angeles planned for mid-2027.

Who can use the service

This integration is a major win for the 150 million global users who already rely on Uber for nomad news and daily transit. It specifically benefits:

  • Digital nomads and expats living in Las Vegas or Los Angeles who want to experience autonomous transit without managing multiple accounts.
  • International travelers who can now access Zoox’s technology through a familiar interface.
  • Urban commuters looking for a consistent, tech-forward alternative to traditional ride-shares.

How to book a ride

The process is designed to be seamless. When you request a ride in a supported service area, the Uber app may offer a Zoox robotaxi as an option for eligible trips. While Zoox currently offers free rides during its testing phase, the service will transition to a paid model once it fully integrates with Uber this summer.

Zoox will continue to operate its own standalone app alongside the Uber integration. This gives you the flexibility to choose whichever platform you prefer. Deployment remains contingent on final approval from the NHTSA, as the agency is currently reviewing the safety exemptions required for vehicles without manual controls.
