How Brunei’s Long-Term Pass Works for Remote Professionals
Brunei has introduced a new Long-Term Pass (LTP) allowing eligible foreign professionals and investors to secure residency for up to five years. The pass includes multiple re-entry privileges and serves as a stable alternative for high-skilled remote workers and business owners seeking long-term stays.
How Brunei’s Long-Term Pass Works for Remote Professionals
Brunei’s Long-Term Pass (LTP) offers a stable residency path for those looking to base themselves in the Sultanate for up to five years. While the program has been active since late 2024, it remains a core pillar of the country's strategy to attract high-skilled talent and private investment. The pass includes multiple re-entry privileges, allowing residents to travel freely without the constraints of standard short-term tourist visas.
The policy is divided into three distinct tracks. The Professional Visit Pass targets experts in specialized fields where the local workforce has gaps. The Business Visit Pass is designed for company owners and investors who can prove they are creating local jobs and maintaining tax compliance. Finally, the Social Visit Pass serves those with family ties to Brunei citizens or permanent residents.
Who qualifies for the pass
This program is a significant step up for digital nomads and expats who previously relied on 14 to 90-day tourist entries. High-skilled remote workers and consultants can qualify under the professional category if their expertise is vetted by relevant government bodies.
However, the program excludes certain sectors. If your business involves convenience stores, restaurants, laundries, or salons, you generally won't qualify for the business track. The government also reserves the right to revoke the pass if a holder fails to provide a tangible economic benefit to the country.
Application steps and requirements
To start the process, you must coordinate with the Immigration and National Registration Department (JIPK). Professional and business applicants should contact the Long-Term Pass Secretariat at the JIPK headquarters to request the necessary forms.
- Gather documentation proving your specialized expertise or business ownership.
- Submit your application via the JIPK headquarters or via email at info@immigration.gov.bn.
- Prepare for processing fees, which typically range from BND 3 to BND 50 depending on your nationality.
