Egypt Updates Visa-on-Arrival Fees

Travelers and remote workers heading to Egypt will see a slight price increase at the border starting next month. On March 1, the cost for a single-entry visa-on-arrival will rise from $25 to $30 USD.

The Egyptian Travel Agents Association confirmed the change following recent legislative updates. While rumors previously suggested a much steeper jump to $45, the actual increase is a modest $5 adjustment. This fee applies to emergency tourist visas issued directly at airports and sea ports.

Who is affected

This change impacts all nationalities eligible for the 30-day visa-on-arrival, including citizens from the US, UK, and EU. If you are a digital nomad using a standard tourist entry for a short-term scouting trip or a 30-day stay, you will need to account for the new rate.

The increase does not affect long-term residents with existing work permits or those entering via the Sinai-only 15-day free stamp. If you arrive before the March 1 deadline, the current $25 rate still applies.

Practical steps for travelers

To ensure a smooth entry, keep these points in mind for your next trip:

  • Bring exactly $30 USD in cash to avoid issues with change at the immigration kiosks.
  • While euros and pounds are often accepted, the exchange rates used by port officials are typically unfavorable.
  • Consider applying for an e-Visa online before you fly. It currently remains $25, allowing you to bypass the bank queues at the airport and lock in the lower price.

For those planning a longer stay, the five-year multiple-entry visa remains an option for frequent visitors, though the single-entry arrival stamp is still the most common path for visa updates upon landing.
